Nobody Does It Better

by John Anthony on April 14, 2010

I have two distinct memories of Carly Simon growing up. The first is the Heinz Ketchup commercial that played ‘Anticipation’ and the second, a People magazine cover.

Inducted into the the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 1994, Carly has certainly made her mark on American pop music. My favorite song  from her vast catalog, ironically, was not written by her but by Marvin Hamlisch & Carole Bayer Sager.

‘Nobody Does It Better’ from the James Bond movie, The Spy Who Loved Me  along with ‘Live and Let Die’ from my idol, Paul McCartney, are the two best James Bond themes to date, in my opinion.

To this day, if I’m flipping channnels during Bond week and The Spy Who Loved Me is on, the first thing I think of is the end and the closing credits. I would get hooked into watching the rest of the movie or go back-n-forth just to hear that song.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your style of music, especially with the cover of Barbra Streisand’s “Prisoner”. I’ve only heard a couple of people only DARE to TRY to cover that song, and you are one of the best, with your range, your blues obvious in the orchestration.

thank you for sharing your talent, and keep up the good work.
